Length of study

The Doctor of Dental Surgery Program requires at least 7 years. The students have to start from Foundation Year as the preparation year or first year and have to pass the National Entrance Exam before continuing another 6 years for their Doctorate degree in Dental Surgery.

The stream course is organized as followed:

A. Basic Medical Sciences (B.M.S) – 3 years:

Basic Medical Sciences (B.M.S) requires the first three years including the Foundation year which equips students with an understanding of normal structure and function, as well as introduces the basis of pathology in the practice of dentistry.

1- Foundation year

2- Second year

3- Third year

B. Bachelor of Dentistry (B.D) – 2 years more:

Bachelor of Dentistry Sciences (B.D.S) requires two additional academic years from B.M.S to emphasize Basic Dental Sciences which equips students with an understanding of physiological and pathological structures and function, as well as introducing and conducting the practice of pre-clinical and clinical subjects.

4- Fourth year

5- Fifth year

            The students will provide a Certificate of Bachelor of Dentistry when they fulfill all their requirements of pre-clinic, clinic practice, and theories. After graduating from BD and passing the competitive exam, the students can continue to Doctor of Dental Surgery or Master of Dental Sciences.

Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and Master of Dental Sciences-  2 years more

Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S) and Master of Dental Sciences ( M.D.S) requires another two academic years (Sixth year and Seventh year) from B.D:

1- D.D.S

To emphasize Basic and Principle Dental Sciences that focus on didactic lectures, conducting and carrying out the practice of pre-clinical and clinical subjects, and clinical research. After graduating from DDS with presenting their thesis (The thesis could be presented before or after the University graduation exam) and passing the competitive exam, the students can continue to the Diploma of Specialty.

2-M.D.S

  • To emphasize Basic and Principle Dental Sciences that focus on didactic lectures on dental public health and dental research. After graduating M.D.S with presenting their thesis (The thesis could be presented before or after the University graduation exam) and passing the competitive exam, the students can continue to PhD.

The students with the University Certificate of Doctorate of in Dental Surgery or Master of Dental Sciences are required to sit the National Exit Exam to receive Diploma in DDS or MDS.
